Saturday Treasures

Last weekend was a very good weekend for estate and yard sales.
I though you might enjoy seeing a few
of my favorite picks.

I've always been enamored with
vintage vessels of all types
and these two lovelies were a steal
at $1 each.

I had more altered dolls in mind when I came across
these gorgeous silver salt and pepper shakers
I don't know if the watch still works
but I don't plan on wearing it.
Disassembled it will provide several
ornate findings to use in mixed media pieces.
The seller requested 10 cents for it!

I collect many things
and one of my oldest and favorite collections is
music boxes.
I don't believe this one is very old
but it's very pretty.

I have a few of this type already
and they're so fun.
They were used to hold ladies face powder.

An enjoyable Saturday
with such wonderful finds...
I'm off to a block sale this morning.
Wish me luck
&
happy hunting to you!

The Girls

The girls are actually altered salt and pepper shaker dolls
I made for a swap in our
Marie Antoinette Mail Art Group.
Their heads are from antique porcelain dolls who lost their bodies
a long, long time ago in Germany.
I've given them crowns (the tall blonde has a fleur de lis crown!) and dressed them in some lovely vintage fabrics and adorned them with
assorted bits and baubles.
The girls will be traveling to their new homes tomorrow...
both of my swap partners happen to live in
Knoxville
so perhaps they'll get to visit
each other again.
Enjoy your Sunday!

Wabi Sabi Solder

Wabi Sabi...
finding the beauty in imperfection.
My first attempt at soldering can most certainly be described as imperfect.
I have been both intrigued and intimidated by the art of soldering
for quite some time now
but finally took the plunge in a stained glass suncatcher class
at a local studio.

The suncatcher is about 8 inches square.
For the outer border I chose pieces of milky white
stained glass
to complement the image I selected for the center.
I'm still deciding what to use as a hanger
and where exactly I'll be hanging it.
My first soldered piece is
wabi sabi
to me.

This past week I also mailed a package of fun
to the winner of my blogiversary giveaway.
Loads of ephemera, buttons, jewelry pieces, vintage postcards,
cabinet cards, flowers, trims, art bits
and a frozen charlotte wrapped in pom pom trim.
I hope this brings Tabitha hours of enjoyment!

Sushi (?) Antoinette

This is the image Kris gave us to create
a diary-like chipboard page
for a book collaborative in the
Marie Antoinette Mail Art Group
I certainly couldn't pass on such a
whimsical project!

After envisioning Sushi in many different roles and outfits..

I opted for a career as a can-can dancer
in a Gay Paris revue.
(Look closely, that's Sushi on the left.)

When she's not performing,
Sushi loves to play..

The back of my page is Sushi
enjoying a day
at the fair!
I can't wait to see what my fellow collaborators have done
with Sushi
&
I'll be sure to share the finished diary with you.
Wishing each of you a wonderful week!

Our Favorite Things Giveaway

We're kindred spirits aren't we...our fun-loving, alter anything, artsy tribe of bloggers.
Three years ago today, March 28, 2010,
I wrote my very first blog post.
Can't say I loved it from that very first post but it sure grew on me quickly!
It's been a wonderful ride..
sharing my creations...
loving your creations..
swapping art...
learning...
boundless inspiration...
and making some of the best friends I've ever known.
I used to think it was weird when I saw bloggers talk about close friendships
back in the early days.
Now I can't imagine my life without each of you in it.

That affinity we share for
vintage things...

flowers, flowers and more flowers...

and yards of yummy trims and laces.

Those are just a few of our favorite things of course.
There are trinkets and fabrics and art supplies galore
(that I simply didn't have the time to photograph!)

But that's what makes this giveaway,
yes,
Three Year Blogiversary Favorite Things Giveaway
such fun!
You won't know exactly what you'll win-
only that it will be a wonderful selection of
our favorite things,
wrapped in gratitude and love.

All you have to do to enter is leave a comment
and random.org will pick a winner April 5th.
Good luck to all!

Marie Easter Eggs

We swapped Easter Egg ATCs in the
Marie Antoinette Mail Art Group.
I used a lovely muted lavender patterned paper for the background..
on top of that I added lavender Russian bridal veil...
then edged the egg with a wonderful vintage lavender and green trim.
I embellished each Easter bonnet a little differently
but every Marie sported a lavender dotted guinea feather!
